Pleasanton Reads Project – Learners & Volunteers

What is The Pleasanton Reads Project?
The Pleasanton Reads Project provides instruction in basic literacy and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) through free weekly tutoring and/or ESL Conversation Practice Groups for eligible adults
Who can join?

  • Learners:  The program is open to Pleasanton residents aged 18+ who are either native English speakers or ESL students and who read below the 8th grade level.  Click here for student information.
  • Tutors/Instructors:  Volunteers are trained by the Library Literacy Team; all necessary instructional materials are provided.  Want to volunteer?  See the links below.
  • Next Volunteer Orientation & Training, Saturday, 20 January 2018,  1:00 – 5:00 PM

When does Pleasanton Reads meet?
ESL Conversation Practice Groups meet weekly.  Click here for the current schedule.
Tutors and students meet once or twice weekly for 1-2 hours at a mutually convenient time.
Where does Pleasanton Reads meet?
Pleasanton Public Library provides meeting spaces for tutoring and ESL Conversation Practice Groups.
How much does it cost?
Instruction and materials are provided free of charge to participants.  Funding for the program is provided by the City of Pleasanton and a grant from California Library Literacy Services (CLLS), a program of the California State Library.
