The Alameda County Healthy Homes Department Housing Rehabilitation Program serves selected cities (Albany, Dublin, Emeryville, Newark, Piedmont) and the Urban County (unincorporated counties including San Lorenzo, Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Foothill Knolls, Fairview and Sunol). Housing rehabilitation grant and loan services are available to qualified individuals.
Housing Rehabilitation and Grant Loan Services:
Minor Home Repair grants are offered in the Urban County, the unincorporated areas of the county, and the cities of Oakland, and Union City. This grant can be used to make minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs and can be used for, railings, grab bars, toilets, water heaters, furnaces, doors, locks and more.
Accessibility Improvement grants are offered in the Urban County, the unincorporated areas of the county and the city of Union City for seniors or persons with special needs to install ramps, handrails, grab bars, railings, doorways, bath and kitchen access, bathtubs and showers, counter height modifications, etc.
Exterior Paint grants are offered in the Urban County, the unincorporated areas of the county, and Union City to paint the exterior of your home.
Mobile Home grants are offered in the Urban County, the unincorporated areas of the county and the cities of Fremont and Union City to fix roofs, heating and cooling systems, plumbing, floors, windows, and to replace built-in ovens and ranges. Mobile home owners in Union City may apply for a Minor Home Repair Grant.
Invasive Tree Removal grants are offered in the City of Fremont for trees on private property that are causing structural or functional problems like pavement buckling, walkway or foundation damage.
Rehabilitation Low-Interest Loans of up to $60,000 for major repairs in the Urban County, the unincorporated areas of the county, and Fremont. Repayment may be deferred until the property is sold, refinanced or title transferred.
Rehabilitation grants are available for owner occupied properties in Union City. Work may include repairs on your roof, foundation, termite damage, dry rot, kitchen and bath damage, plumbing, electrical, water heater, doors, windows, built-in appliances, heating and cooling, energy doors, and more.
To Be Eligible for Any of These Services You Must:
- Own your home or live in one of our services areas and
- Have an income based upon family size within the guidelines (PDF – 210kb)*.
- Tenants who are 62 or older and/or have a disability may apply for an Accessibility Improvement Grant with their landlords consent.
The Alameda County Community Development Agency’s Healthy Homes Department Housing Rehabilitation Program includes: Minor Home Repair Grants (including mobile homes), Accessibility Improvement Grants, Paint Grants, and Housing Rehabilitation Loans.
